Former manager Neil Warnock has slammed the decision not to award a penalty to Aston Villa in ‘one of the worst’ games he’s watched.
Nottingham Forest stopped a run of five straight Premier League defeats as a first half goal from Emmanuel Dennis gave them a lead. It was a lead that lasted just seven minutes though, with Ashley Young levelling the scores at 1-1.
That is how the game finished after 90 minutes, with the point lifting the Reds back off the bottom of the table. It means that they also bounced back from a disappointing 4-0 defeat against Leicester City in the previous game.

Villa may have been given the chance to take the lead in the game, with fans and players calling for a penalty for a challenge from Ryan Yates on Ezri Konsa in the second half. Following the game, Warnock had no doubts over his thoughts on the decision not to award the penalty. The former manager pointed towards a penalty that was awarded to Arsenal for a similar foul on Gabriel Jesus just the day before.
“One of the worst #premierleague games I’ve watched,” he wrote on Twitter. “Had to switch off after an hour to wash the pots!
“Anthony Taylor and team missing a clear penalty that was worse than Jesus’s, just less writhing around. Two games decided by refs and VAR again. #AVFC #NFFC #VAR
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, pundit Jamie Carragher was also in agreement with Warnock over Villa’s penalty shout.
“I think it is a penalty. It is certainly more of a penalty than we saw yesterday,” he said.
“I think there is a greater contact on the leg of Ezri Konsa, and it always looks worse when you slow it down but that is a bigger challenge than the one that we saw yesterday.”
