Neil Lennon tells old Celtic pal Chris Sutton he’s not Chelsea’s worst ever player but their SECOND worst ever

Neil Lennon has told Michael Beale's he's wrong about Chris Sutton – because he's only Chelsea's SECOND worst ever player.

Sutton sparked a war of words with Beale when he questioned the Rangers manager over whether he would have given Celtic a goal back as he did with Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup. Beale came out all guns blazing, refusing to name Sutton but branding him a "comedy act" and the "worst ever player" to run out for his boyhood team Chelsea.

Record Sport columnist Sutton has since hit back at the "thin skinned" Ibrox boss and it's a feud that rumbled on ahead of Sunday's Viaplay Cup Final between Rangers and Celtic – where viewers will be glued to the screens to see what Sutton, who is on punditry duty, has to say. His former teammate Lennon though sees the funny side as he spoke with Ally McCoist on talkSPORT about the war of words.

It was the former Rangers striker who brought it up as he quipped: “I am working at it (the cup final) which I’m looking forward to. Wee Lenny and I had a conversation about it last week and I’m looking forward to working at it with Chelsea’s worst ever player never mind worst ever centre forward. If you read the reports Michael Beale had a right go at Chris Sutton so there might be a bit of patter flying around.”

And former Parkhead boss Lennon reckons Beale was wrong in his assessment of Sutton's time at Chelsea ... although not by much. He said: “I thought that was harsh from Michael Beale, he was actually Chelsea’s second worst ever player.”
