Neil Lennon has admitted he would be interested in returning to Hibernian.
The former Celtic boss has broken his silence on links with the vacant Easter Road post after Lee Johnson was sacked on Sunday.
And Lennon has stated he would be interested in returning to the club.
He said: "Of course. I have been there before, it's a big club, it's got potential.
"But there has been change after change after change. There has been no consistency at coach level and that's probably the most important role in the whole of the football club.
"They have to get the next appointment right for a bit of longevity, and a bit of stability.
"I have watched Hibs a few times this year. Going forward they have got some really good players, good speed in the team but defensively they are not working hard enough to stop opportunities, stop crosses and that needs to be corrected before they can make any sort of progress at all."
Lennon refused to be drawn into any guarantees he would require should he be appointed, but admitted it might be "worth a conversation" over the role.
Speaking on PLZ Soccer, he said: "We're not going down this hypothetical route, we can't. There will be a load of applicants, I'm sure, for the job.
"It's really important the board get that right. Whether they approach me or not, it might be worth a conversation but that's as far as we can go with it at the minute."
Pressed on whether Hibs need to appoint a new manager before the end of the transfer window next week, Lennon commented: "The back line does need addressed, whether they can bring anybody else in...because they have spent money. The Gordon's have backed the footballing side of things.
"Whether the window shuts or not there is still a squad of players there who are far better than what they are showing at the minute in terms of results and performances.
"I do think in Lee's defence that the European campaign was difficult.
"In the short term, I don't think they need to make a rash decision. They have got one more game before the international break where they can get their ducks in a row with who they want to bring in.
"I think that will be the approach they will take - I'm only speculating on that."
