Neil Etheridge provides fresh injury update following Nottingham Forest incident

Birmingham City’s Neil Etheridge has given the latest update in a message to fans following his injury against Nottingham Forest.

The goalkeeper suffered a head injury in a coming together with Djed Spence in the second half of the weekend’s clash at the City Ground. After receiving treatment for around 10 minutes, he was stretchered off the pitch and taken to the Queens Medical Centre.

Following the game, Blues’ boss Lee Bowyer revealed that Etheridge had been knocked unconscious in the collision and had been taken to hospital. "It was a collision between two players going at full speed,” he said.

“He came off with concussion, he was out cold the whole time he was being treated and he's now been taken to hospital. We're waiting to hear some good news.”

Blues later confirmed that he has been released from hospital on Saturday evening, and Etheridge has now given the latest update, posting a message to fans on social media. “Thank you for all the supporting get well messages,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Unfortunate circumstances that I had to come off but I will be fighting to come back soon. Thankfully no fractures or breaks shown in the CT scan just some serious swelling which the lads now find funny,

“Fighting to get back at soon as possible after a serious concussion. Thank you to all the medical staff that were on hand at the stadium and when I got to hospital at Queens Medical Centre Thank you once again for all your support.”

Should he pass all the steps of the FA’s concussion protocol, the goalkeeper could return to action for Birmingham’s next Championship game on Friday afternoon. Forest’s attention now turns to a trip to Kenilworth Road to take on Luton Town on the same day.
