Neighbours have spoken of their shock after a couple were found dead at their home in North Shields on Monday.
Northumbria Police received a report at around 2.15pm yesterday regarding concern for a woman who had failed to show up for work that day. Officers attended her home on The Quadrant and found a woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s dead at the home.
Today neighbours told of the shock after learning of the two deaths on the street.

One resident said: "It's absolutely awful, nobody knows what happened but it's come as such a shock. I didn't know them personally, but I would say hello if I saw her in the front garden when I was passing by. I just can't believe what's happened, it's awful."
Another added: "I don't know what's happened. I looked out the window at about 3.30pm yesterday and saw all the police there and all the neighbours were out. I didn't know them but I'm so shocked that they've died."
Officers remained in the area throughout the day. However, the deaths are currently being treated as unexplained and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public.
Another resident added: "She would rarely go out without her car and that hadn't moved from the drive so that seemed odd. But I think it was her work that raised the concern because she hadn't turned up that day and they hadn't been able to get in touch with her."
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At about 2.15pm yesterday (Monday), we received a report of concern for a woman after she failed to turn up for work.
"Officers attended her home address on the Quadrant, North Shields, and sadly found two occupants, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, deceased.
"The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public.
"The families of both people have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers during this tragic time.
"We would ask that people refrain from any speculation, both in public and on social media, as officers continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
"Officers will remain in the area throughout the day and anyone with concerns are encouraged to speak to them."
