Neighbours furious at Sneinton milk thieves stealing from doorsteps for three months

Neighbours have spoken of their frustration towards thieves who they say steal milk and try car doors during the night. Gee Hussain, 46, had fresh milk delivered to his house on Ladysmith Street, Sneinton in the early hours of the morning for his pregnant wife and mother-in-law. He has been forced to caner his order after three months of the bottles being stolen from his front door.

Mr Hussain told Nottinghamshire Live other people in the area had also been struck by thieves, and he had pictured them on a Ring doorbell he had bought after the first month of thefts. He told Nottinghamshire Live "We've seen them on the Ring Camera a lot of times and we've had to cancel our order. And it's unfair because we have an elderly parent with us and my pregnant wife, so when they wake up for a cup of tea we can't get the milk until when the shops open at 9am.

"It's been going on for three months, it's so annoying. We had it delivered three times a week, and we would be lucky to see one of them - as soon as they are delivered they pick it up and off they go.

"It's not only milk but fresh orange juice as well, anything they can get their hands on. At one point they dropped the orange juice next to someone's house. It's £8 but we're paying for it and my pregnant wife has to deal with it because I'm at work, a couple of times the milk men have reimbursed us but they've done all they can so we cancelled.

"Other people have said they have had their milk stolen too and their cars looked into - it's not on. There are multiple people who take the milk and try the car doors almost every night on my camera."

Mr Hussain, who works as a courier, added that the impact of the small crime was frustrating for his family. "I'm the only one that drives and I'm not usually here or awake when it happens. My wife chased a man who took it one morning, when she was pregnant, because she was that annoyed," He added.

"My mother-in-law is shocked because it is not like it once was, with people stealing things off your front door. She said we should leave a note to tell them to ask, because if they asked we would have got them some.

"People will say it's not a stabbing it is just milk - and obviously it's not as serious as other crime. But it's more the principle that they are denying people basic things for no reason."

Ann Combrick, 69, who works at a pharmacy and lives on Ladysmith Street, said: "I don't have milk delivered but people have been coming down and trying all our car doors in this street.

"I know it's hard at the minute for a lot of people but there are places that can help if they are struggling. They don't need to resort to stealing from a pensioner and someone who is pregnant. It's an inconvenience and it's a crime. It doesn't matter that it is milk."

Lottie Magee, 28, who lives on nearby Victoria Avenue in Sneinton, got in touch with Mr Hussain after she too had milk stolen from the front of her house. She said "We had a lot happening down here in the last couple months, we've had our milk stolen and car broken into and satnav taken. Our road is closed off so they've come down here just to get it.

"This house is my pride and joy and I love Sneinton but it has made me think about moving. It's ludicrous little things but it is just so annoying. It has happened a couple of times and they take two pints a time. Despite people getting Ring doorbells you still see movement in the night with people nicking things.

"People will say 'It's just milk' but someone is coming onto my property and taking what they want. I think it is a bunch of people going around Sneinton."

Mr Hussain said he has contacted Nottingham Police about the thefts.
