Neighbours have described the months of "hell" they endured living near a property which was used as a drug den and had to be boarded up by police.
Kimbolton Avenue in Radford is mostly home to students who are completing their studies at one of the two universities in Nottingham.
However, at number 53, frequent visitors at 4am as well as fighting and constant drug use meant that other properties on the street were afraid to even venture out at night.
Police say the house was used by sex workers who operated out of it and was the subject of numerous anti-social behaviour reports.
The tenants have now been removed, the house boarded up, and others living on the street say this is a huge relief.
Emily Grossi, 20, of Kimbolton Avenue, told Nottinghamshire Live: "They were pretty loud.
"We had stuff like dirty needles left around our house. People were always shouting, swearing, and it didn't stop at night.
"I have the floor on the bottom floor and they had one of those smart doorbells that played a noise - I heard it constantly. At 4am it would go off - all the time.
"It's a relief, that's for sure."
Meanwhile Alice Nicot, 20, who also lives on the street, said: "It didn't affect us as much because we don't live as close as other people.
"But we heard about what was going on and I know their neighbours had it really tough.
"The police were here all the time because of it."
Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "It's been absolute hell.
"It felt like it was happening every night. I wouldn't go outside, I wouldn't dare to. It was so intimidating, honestly.
"People were in and out of there constantly. They had no respect for anyone else - everyone else who lives here seems great.
"Hopefully now it will stop."
Officers from the City Central neighbourhood policing team secured a court order for a three-month closure, making it an offence for anyone to enter or remain on the premises with the exception of emergency services, the landlord or authorised representatives.
In a bid to tackle issues at the three bedroom mid-terrace house, police executed search warrants in May and September last year. These resulted in arrests and large quantities of heroin, cocaine, mamba and cannabis being seized.
However problems continued and the City Central neighbourhood policing team applied to have the property shut down under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
Sergeant Clarke said: “We had reports of people outside fighting with hammers and drug users shouting because they couldn’t get into the address to get what they want.
“The problems progressed to a local shop at the end of the road. It became apparent to the shopkeeper that all the items that were being stolen from her shop was going to 53 Kimbolton Avenue to be swapped for drugs or sex services.
“In March 2021 alone, we recorded 15 incidents relating to the property.”
Sergeant Bruce Clarke said a large amount of work had gone into securing the closure order.
“Closing a property is the ‘nuclear’ option,” he said.
“Therefore, we’ve got to justify to the court that we’ve tried everything else we possibly can to resolve the issues.
“We got numerous statements together and ultimately put a package together to the force’s legal services department. They’ve then drawn up the paperwork and put that before the magistrates.
“It also involved me attending court and explaining under oath what a nightmare situation the residents have been in.”
The closure order was granted on January 26. Police cleared the property and a private firm was brought in to board the house up.
Inspector Paul Ferguson, who leads the City Central neighbourhood policing team, said officers had worked tirelessly to close down the property.
He said: “This action is the consequence of persistent offending and anti-social behaviour which has had a big impact on the local community.
“I hope this action reassures residents that we will listen to their concerns and take appropriate and proportionate action to deal with individuals who cause harm in the area.
“I would like to thank Sgt Clarke and his team for their tenacity in dealing with the issue which has culminated in the address being closed.”
