Neighbours bosses are hoping to go out in style later this year.
The axed Aussie soap are looking to reunite Ramsay Street's biggest former stars Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan for an emotional farewell episode.
Jason, who played Scott Robinson, has told executives he's up for a final cameo, but the star wants pop princess Kylie, 53, to make a comeback alongside him.
Earlier this month, it was announced that the popular soap is expected to end in August this year, just a few weeks before it would have celebrated it's milestone 40th anniversary.
It's been reported that Fremantle Australia have been in conservations for weeks with Channel 5 in a bid to keep the show on air, but there has yet to be a deal made, with fans now fearing this could be the end of the much-loved show.
Neighbours legend Jason, 53, has apparently told show bosses that he is flying to Melbourne in April and could potentially film an emotional return to Ramsay Street.
It's not known whether Kylie, who played Charlene Robinson, would join her former on-screen beau, but executives are apparently positive they can make it happen.
According to The Sun, the Neighbours team are keen to end things "on a real high" and bosses have spoken to Jason "who has agreed in theory to return".
"Kylie has always been a huge supporter of the show — they’re just waiting to hear back," the source added when discussing the potential reunion with the publication.
Back in 1988, nearly 20 million viewers in the UK tuned in to watch Scott marry Charlene on the Aussie soap.
The storyline helped propel Kylie and Jason into global stardom, with the stars - who briefly dated off-screen too- going on to nab a No1 hit single with Especially For You.
Spinning Around singer Kylie last reprised her role Charlene back in 2019, slipping back into her dungarees and picking up a wrench to for a three minute advert for the Australian tourist board.
As the advert aired, old pal Jason discussed the chances of them both returning to the soap that made them household names.
"It doesn't feel like something I need to do. I have absolute respect for the show and what it's given me, but the problem with going back would be that the publicity becomes bigger than the moment," he told the Radio Times in December 2019.
"However, he went on: "If Guy [Pearce], Kylie [Minogue] and me agreed we'd all do three episodes, that'd be different because we'd be sharing it."
In the wake of the soap's axe earlier this month, it's since been reported that Guy, who played Mike Young, has been contacted by Neighbours bosses about a potential farewell cameo.
Ian Smith, 83, has also apparently agreed to reprise his iconic role as Harold Bishop and will start filming next month.
Since first airing on 18 March 1985, Neighbours has also seen some of the world's biggest actors launch their careers on the soap in addition to Kylie and Jason, including Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth.
