The Municipal Corporation of Delhi House meeting on Monday witnessed chaotic scenes as protests by AAP and Congress councillors repeatedly disrupted proceedings, forcing adjournments twice during the session, according to Neha Mishra's Times of India report.
While AAP councillors waved “cockroach” posters and raised slogans over the alleged NEET paper leak issue, Congress councillors arrived wearing garlands made of Melody toffees as part of their protest against the BJP-led Centre. The opposition parties demanded the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and accused the BJP of refusing discussion on the issue inside the House.
Leader of Opposition in MCD Ankush Narang alleged that repeated NEET paper leaks under the BJP government had “ruined the future of lakhs of students” and accused the ruling party of “avoiding accountability”.
The disruptions led to the postponement of several agenda items, including proposals related to underground multi-level parking facilities at New Friends Colony, Jangpura and Kalkaji, as well as a proposal to assign licence inspector work to sanitary inspectors in respective wards.
Addressing a press conference later, mayor Pravesh Wahi accused AAP councillors of “supporting a social media campaign aimed at creating disorder” while BJP councillors “wanted to discuss civic issues” such as sanitation arrangements and drain cleaning.
“This clearly shows that AAP’s intention was to disrupt the functioning of the House,” he said.
Wahi also announced that development funds of Rs 50 lakh each had been released to all councillors for civic works including road repairs, drain construction and sanitation-related projects.
