BENGALURU: International Master Neelash Saha scored one of the biggest wins of his career as he shocked third seed GM Nigel Short of England to join compatriot GM Pranav Anand atop the leaderboard with four wins from four rounds at the 1st Bangalore International Open Chess Tournament here on Saturday.
The 21-year-old capitalized on an error from the chess legend and drove home the advantage to win in just 27 moves with white pieces on the top board. "It is one of the biggest wins of my career and it has given a big boost to my confidence to give my best in this tournament," Saha told TOI. "He made an error on the seventh move and I knew I had the upper hand from the eighth move. The game lasted only another 20 moves," said Saha (2446 rating), who was taking on Short (2592) for the first time in his career.
