The nurse practitioner you see for a checkup is increasingly likely to have trained at a for-profit school. A new study of four large states found that the share of newly licensed nurse practitioners educated at for-profit programs rose from 2.4% in 2010 to nearly one-third in 2024, according to Brown University.
The research, published Oct. 6 in the Annals of Internal Medicine, looked at 117,156 nurse practitioners licensed from 2010 through 2024 in California, Florida, Iowa and Texas.
