Cardiovascular disease is appearing earlier in women's lives, and an American Heart Association scientific statement projects the pattern will intensify. By 2050, nearly a third of women aged 20 to 44 are forecast to have some type of cardiovascular disease, compared with fewer than one in four today.
The statement, published in Circulation in late February, also forecasts that nearly six in 10 women in the United States will have some type of cardiovascular disease within 25 years, a figure driven substantially by rising rates of high blood pressure.
