NBL leaders Adelaide seething over Bogut's crisis claim

Adelaide 36ers coach Mike Wells believes he has "unwavering" support from the NBL club's hierarchy despite Andrew Bogut's bombshell claims about crisis talks.

The Sixers have a 21-8 record in first place, but have lost four of their past six games ahead of a road clash with Illawarra on Thursday night.

Sydney Kings co-owner and assistant coach Bogut lit a fire on Monday, claiming key figures at the Sixers had met to discuss sacking Wells.

"Pretty wild league where the 'leaders' of your team meet to chat about firing your Head Coach, whilst you sit in 1st place on the NBL Ladder, with only a handful of games to go until the playoffs!" Bogut posted on X.

The post prompted a stinging rebuke from club owner Grant Kelley, who said Adelaide had directly contacted the Kings about Bogut's comments.

Kelley added the Sixers are "thousand per cent" behind Wells as they eye a title run.

On Tuesday, Wells said he is constant contact with Kelley, chief executive Nic Barbato and general manager Matt Weston, and that the club leaders are on the same page.

"Their support of me since I took over has been unwavering," Wells said.

"I feel very, very supported by those guys."

Wells insisted he did not need to talk to his players about former NBA star Bogut's suggestion of dissent within the ranks.

"I don't think there's anything that's happened here internally other than, 'wow, we lost a couple of games'," Wells said.

"And I think that every team and every organisation has ups and downs through the season. That's just part of it."

Pressed on whether it is appropriate for someone in Bogut's position to be making such comments, Wells played a straight bat.

"I know Andrew Bogut's a hell of a coach and they've done a hell of a job in Sydney," he said.

"Everybody in this day and age has an opinion and I can only focus on the things that Mike Wells can control.

"And that (Bogut's comments) is something that Mike Wells can not control."

Wells said his focus was on getting his team back on track ahead of the playoffs.

"Organisations and teams are made when adversity hits, and this is the first time that there's been a little bit," he said.

"That's what I'm solely focused on, is the group, and how we can represent Adelaide in the best way possible and give our fans and our ownership and our whole team everything that they want, which is the championship.

"I'm trying to solve that puzzle."
