After two seasons, NBC has confirmed the cancellation of the revamped version of 'Quantum Leap,' a follow-up to the 1989 show of the same name. The series starred Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, who becomes trapped in different people's lives in the past while attempting to restart the Quantum Leap project pioneered by Dr. Sam Beckett. As he strives to correct past mistakes in these lives, he 'leaps' to different existences, hoping each leap will bring him back home.
The show's ensemble cast included Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. Developed by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, the series was executive produced by Martin Gero, Dean Georgaris, Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer, and Alex Berger. Universal Television was the studio behind the production, with Gero and Georgaris serving as co-showrunners.
'Quantum Leap' premiered on NBC in September 2022 and was renewed for a second season in December of the same year. Season 2 aired from October 2023 to February 2024, culminating in what will now be the series finale.
Meanwhile, NBC has announced renewals for popular shows like 'Chicago Med,' 'Chicago Fire,' 'Chicago P.D.,' 'Law & Order,' and 'Law & Order: SVU' for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. The fate of 'Law & Order: Organized Crime,' starring Christopher Meloni, is still pending. Additionally, freshman dramas 'Found' and 'The Irrational' were renewed for second seasons in November.
Deadline was the first to report the news of 'Quantum Leap's' cancellation.
