Through the first four games of the NBA Finals, Steph Curry has helped carry the Golden State Warriors against the Boston Celtics. However, on Monday night in Game 5, the reigning Western Conference Finals MVP was ice cold.
Curry tallied 16 points on 7-of-22 from the field and an uncharacteristic 0-of9 from long distance in Game 5. However, with Curry cold, his teammates answered the bell.
Along with hounding Jayson Tatum on the defensive side of the floor, Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors with another double-double. The former No. 1 overall pick exploded for 26 points and 13 rebounds in 42 minutes. Wiggins tallied 10 of his points in the final 12 minutes.
While the Warriors led throughout the first half, the Celtics stormed back into the game with a run out of halftime. Klay Thompson helped weather the run with 10 clutch points in the third quarter. Thompson finished the game with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field with five triples, three rebounds and two assists in 39 minutes.
Behind Wiggins, Thompson, Gary Payton II and Jordan Poole, the Warriors came away with a crucial victory, 104-94.
After the Warriors took control at 3-2 over the Celtics in the NBA Finals, NBA Twitter flooded the timeline with reactions. Here’s a look at what fans, players and analysts were saying about Game 5 on Monday night.
