Trailing 3-1 and facing elimination, the Golden State Warriors needed a win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday to extend their season. In a win-or-go-home situation, the defending champs handled business against the Lakers in Game 5.
In the first half, the Warriors started fast, hitting a barrage of 3-pointers early. Steph Curry capped off the Warriors’ sharpshooting start with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer before halftime to take an 11-point advantage over the Lakers at the break. Behind 11 made triples, the Warriors tallied a playoff-high 70 points in the first half.
Behind their strong start, the Warriors cruised to a much-needed win in Game 5. 121-106.
While Curry lead the way with 27 points, Andrew Wiggins came alive in Game 5 with a 2023 playoff-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field with seven boards, five assists and a steal in 36 minutes.
Draymond Green was all over the floor on Wednesday night, tallying 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in 30 minutes.
Following the Warriors’ win in Game 5 to extend the series against the Lakers, the NBA community on Twitter chimed in with different reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Wednesday night.

Steph finished with 27, but the help from Draymond (20) and Wiggins (25) were what won them this game. GPII adds 13, Poole with 11 and Klay with 10.

Draymond Green has 20 points in a game for the second time this postseason — both coming in Game 5. He did not have a 20-point game once in the regular season.

Gary Payton II might be this team's sixth best player. He does so many things well. I still can't believe he was out of the rotation earlier in this series.

The idea that pressure is now on Lakers is fair. It’s also fair to say that pressure may benefit Lakers, like it does to many great teams.

They did what they had to do. But this game has no bearing on the next one. It’s going to be the toughest test they’ve faced. One possession at a time. Let’s see what the Champs have in them.
