Riding a three-game winning streak, it looked like the Golden State Warriors were on the way to their fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter. However, Golden State’s struggles with closing out games on the road began to show.
As the Timberwolves began to mount a late comeback attempt, the Warriors had no answer for D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards.
Russell fueled a strong fourth-quarter run to tie the game in regulation. The former Golden State guard notched 14 of his 29 points in the final frame as the Timberwolves outscored the Warriors 28-17 in the fourth quarter.
During Minnesota’s late run, the Warriors’ offense went quiet. Golden State also struggled with ball control, turning the ball over six times in the fourth quarter.
As Russell helped push the game to overtime, Golden State’s late struggles spilled over into the extra period. The Warriors scored only four more points in overtime and turned the ball over three more times.
Anthony Edwards came alive in overtime, scoring four clutch points to help secure a comeback win over the Warriors, 119-114. Edwards finished the game with 27 points on 10-of-26 shooting from the floor with six rebounds and five assists.
Steph Curry tallied a team-high 29 points on 8-of-21 shooting from the field with 10 boards and three assists in 43 minutes. Curry didn’t score in overtime, missing all three of his shot attempts in the extra period.
As the Warriors fell to 1-3 in overtime on the season, the NBA community responded on Twitter with different reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Twitter on Wednesday night.

The Warriors just blew another double digit fourth quarter lead. Minnesota (without Towns/Gobert) outscored them by 11 in the fourth, finished them off in OT. Veterans closed poorly again. Momentum halted. GSW record: 26-25. At Denver tomorrow on likely rest night.

The Warriors are now 1-3 in overtime this season and 2-15 in their last 17 overtime games. Dates back to 2018.

Overtime again for the Warriors on the front side of a difficult road back-to-back. They had the same situation in Boston to close the last road trip, rested their big names in Cleveland. They play at Denver tomorrow night. Steph Curry already at 38 minutes.

This has to be one of the weirder stats that surrounds the Warriors. https://t.co/cPp6z3xeSM

Once the scoreboard shows OT, something just changes for the Warriors. Really head scratching what happens to this team when the goes goes to OT.

Warriors' ORTG tonight: 100.0
1st half: 131.5
2nd half: 78.0LMAO

It’s clear that going 7.5 deep hurts the Warriors in the long run. Gotta expand the rotation. They looked gassed

The Warriors blow another double-digit lead – this time a 14-point lead in the fourth – to fall to the Timberwolves 119-114 in OT.
This is their 9th straight OT road loss (last win was Dec. 2017) and they are 2-15 in OT games over the last five seasons, per @ESPNStatsInfo.

This is insane: Warriors regular lineup has a net rating of 21.2. Warriors small lineup has a net rating of -1.7. Warriors 3G lineup with Dray/Loon is -16.8. Are you kidding me? Don't ever run Curry/Poole/Klay lineups, @SteveKerr. It fundamentally fails them on both ends! pic.twitter.com/NR4DsJ1tIb

Alright, Kerr's really gotta stop starting that Nickname lineup. It's way too meh. And he's given it enough chances, should only be used sporadically.
Might ruffle some feathers, but Kerr just can't have both Klay & Poole in w/ Steph for extended time. Gotta choose one.

Jordan closing only works when the offense is operating on good to great shots. If everyone is chucking 3s they’re just icing each other out.
That’s how you get klay missing 2 out of rhythm jumpers in OT

The Warriors have now lost 9 straight overtime games on the road
— Dalton Johnson (@DaltonJ_Johnson) February 2, 2023
The Warriors lose in overtime at Minnesota 119-114 and drop to 7-19 on the road. They are 1-3 in OT games and it was the 8th time this year that they've had a double digit lead and lost. On to Denver.
