The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Gonzaga forward Chet Holmgren No. 2 in the 2022 NBA draft. The selection was not a massive surprise as, despite some minor rumblings, this was the pick all along throughout the entire draft process.
There was a bit of confusion as Yahoo’s Chris Haynes tweeted that the Thunder selected Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. second overall after the Orlando Magic swerved everybody and took Duke forward Paolo Banchero first overall. Haynes would quickly delete his tweet.
Even with that said, social media was still buzzing that the news finally became official when NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called Holmgren’s name as the pick for the Thunder.
Holmgren will now call Oklahoma City his home for at least the next eight years as he is now part of the young trio of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey.
Let’s take a look at some of the best tweets from the night regarding the Thunder officially drafting Holmgren.
