The NBA has rescinded Luka Dončić’s technical foul from Sunday night, allowing him to play in Monday’s game against the Pacers, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports.
Dončić received the technical foul in the Mavericks’ loss to the Hornets, his 16th technical foul of the season. According to NBA rules, every player who receives 16 technical fouls in one season receives an automatic one-game suspension.
The NBA’s decision is big news for Dallas, which is trying to find a way into the playoff picture. The Mavericks are currently 36-39 on the season, sitting at No. 11 in the Western Conference and a game back of the Thunder and Lakers for a spot in the play-in tournament.
Dallas has lost 13 of its past 18 games, which includes a current four-game losing streak. The Mavs are 8-13 since trading for Kyrie Irving ahead of the trade deadline. They have seven games left on the schedule, including the next four on the road.
Dončić clearly has been frustrated in recent weeks as the Mavericks have fallen in the standings. He was fined for making a money gesture at officials after a disputed call in a game last week and explained to the media that he wasn’t having fun this season.
Dončić currently ranks second in the NBA with 33.0 points per game, behind only Joel Embiid (33.3) of the 76ers.
