The NBA has imposed a $25,000 fine on the New York Knicks for breaching league injury reporting regulations. This penalty was announced by the league on Monday following an incident involving the team's handling of player Mitchell Robinson's injury status.
The violation in question pertains to the Knicks' failure to provide an accurate account of Robinson's availability prior to their game against the Toronto Raptors on March 27. Despite being initially listed as out on the injury report, Robinson ended up participating in the match.
Robinson, a 7-footer, made a notable comeback in the game against the Raptors, which the Knicks won convincingly with a score of 145-101. This return marked the end of Robinson's 50-game absence due to an ankle injury. During his 12 minutes on the court, he managed to contribute eight points and two rebounds to his team's victory.
The 26-year-old Robinson has been a key player for the Knicks, averaging 5.7 points and 9.2 rebounds in the 27 games he has played this season, with 21 of those as a starter. He was drafted by the Knicks in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft and is currently in his sixth season with the team.
