Victor Wembanyama has left NBA fans stunned with his latest trick which has been filmed and gone viral on social media.
The 19-year-old is widely expected to be the number one overall pick in this month’s NBA Draft. The San Antonio Spurs are projected to pick Wembanyama with their pick, with the teenager regarded as one of the best draft talents in many a year.
Wembanyama currently plays for French basketball team Metropolitans 92, and it’s a new video where the teenager has gone viral. The video was posted by Overtime France on Instagram, and shows Wembanyama juggling three basketballs at the same time.
The caption, written in French, read: “Welcome to the show”. Wembanyama stands at 7ft 5in tall, and was able to successfully juggle all three basketballs without making an error in the 12-second long video.
Should Wembanyama be selected by the Spurs in this month’s draft, then all eyes will be on when he could make his debut. The NBA season will not begin until October, but he will likely get on the court before then.
The main reason for the Summer League is to give rookie players the chance to showcase their skills in front of NBA coaches in a competitive environment. Wembanyama could take part in Sacramento as the Spurs face the Los Angeles Lakers.
Also playing in the Summer League in California that day the Miami Heat vs Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors vs Charlotte Hornets. Should Wembanyama play for the Spurs in Sacramento, he would be the first number one pick not to make his debut in Las Vegas since Markelle Fultz for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2017.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was asked about the prospect of Wembanyama making his Summer League debut in Sacramento rather than Vegas. Silver said that Wembanyama playing in any form would be good for the NBA as a whole.
"All summer leagues are NBA summer leagues," Silver told The Associated Press earlier this week. "I'm very supportive of the Sacramento summer league.
“I remember when [Kings owner Vivek Ranadive] first came to the league and said this was something he wanted to do. I said, 'As long as you have enough other teams who support it and players who want to play in it, it's a good thing.'"
Silver added: “What’s made the summer leagues so valuable are really the media rights more than the individuals who buy tickets there, because it’s a very affordable experience.
“So, the answer is, I want Victor to get playing court experience and I think the team — assuming it’s San Antonio — should make decisions completely independent of any commercial implications from where he debuts.”
