On a day that saw Boston Celtics starting shooting guard Jaylen Brown’s name in the news for all the wrong reasons, his ball club came out strong against the Chicago Bulls in the last game of their first road trip of the 2022-23 NBA season.
A red hot start soon slid into a redux of the Celtics’ embarrassing collapse last season due to among the worst defensive performances since that debacle in Chicago not so long ago. Mix in some bad calls by the refs and not only interim head coach Joe Mazzulla but also reserve forward Grant Williams getting themselves ejected on questionable calls, and you get a loss like Boston’s 120-102 debacle.
Let’s take a look at what NBA and Celtics Twitter had to say about the loss.

First quarter
Jayson Tatum's decision-making has been *chef's kiss* this season.

Not a bad start for The Cs

Getting downhill early!!!!

Are the Celtics…too good?
— Jared Weiss (@JaredWeissNBA) October 25, 2022
Lead down to 9. #Celtics #Bulls

Second quarter
Make that four fouls in 5 minutes. https://t.co/STpIgSrEDJ
— gary washburn (@GwashburnGlobe) October 25, 2022
Celtics were up 18 when Tatum subbed out. 16-7 Bulls run after that.

Big bucket for Hauser to snap a 21-4 Bulls run.
— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) October 25, 2022
19-point leads against the Bulls are a curse
— Taylor Snow (@taylorcsnow) October 25, 2022
#Bulls lead and Mazzulla finally calls timeout after three #Celtics look at each other to grab a 50-50 ball and Alex Caruso dives and tips it to Drummond for extra possession.

Celtics-Bulls halftime thoughts:
BOS: Absolutely no offensive rhythm since their hot start, defense is getting blown by way too much, getting beat on the glass
CHI: Out-hustling the Celtics in every aspect of the game, Vucevic beating Boston on the glass, amazing resilience
— Jack Simone (@JackSimoneNBA) October 25, 2022
Third quarter
Only three free throw attempts for Boston in the first half. Good to see them get Tatum working from the mid-post area against a mismatch.
— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) October 25, 2022
Here we go…
12-2 #Celtics run to force a #Bulls timeout!
— Abby Chin (@tvabby) October 25, 2022
#Celtics are making an emphasis in getting rebounds and are on a 17-4 run of their own back to late first half. #Bulls
— gary washburn (@GwashburnGlobe) October 25, 2022
Smart drilling Marc Davis in the head TWICE on one play was some welcomed comedy relief.

Mazzulla ejected 😳

Damon Stoudamire steps into the #Celtics huddle in Joe Mazzulla's absence.

Fourth quarter
Celtics will eventually trade for a big from one of the bad teams. Personally I'm targeting either Joel Embiid or Anthony Davis.
— Ryan Bernardoni (@dangercart) October 25, 2022
Andre Drummond just airballed a dunk. My goodness. #Celtics #Bulls
— gary washburn (@GwashburnGlobe) October 25, 2022
Looks like Grant Williams was ejected for running into the official, though it looked like he was just trying to get up quickly and run away to blow off steam rather than deliberately run into the official.
— Jared Weiss (@JaredWeissNBA) October 25, 2022
Grant is just rage playing Settlers of Katan against himself

Me right now. https://t.co/Tke3fAcv6J

Look on the bright side: the Celtics can still go 81-1
