Natural swimming pool firm used by Kate Winslet hopes to make splash in wider market

A luxury swimming pool business which counts Hollywood actress Kate Winslet among its lists of celebrity customers is looking to significantly boost sales and profits by taking the plunge into a wider market.

Clear Water Revival (CWR), based in the Bridgeyate on the outskirts of Bristol, builds and designs natural pools that use biological filtration technology to enable swimmers to paddle in chemical-free water.

According to the firm, its five-stage filtration process, which uses a living microbe biofilm, ultra-fine filtration, UV light and a mineraliser to ensure nutrients and pathogens are removed from the water, can help provide low-maintenance and cheaper running costs for customers.

The company, originally founded in 2006 by scientists David Nettleton and Andrew Cox, has previously delivered private pools for “global figures in music and sport”. With a new partnership secured with manufacturers from Holland and Belgium, it is now set to bring its tech to a broader base of customers.

CWR, which has been backed by research funding from Innovate UK and the University of the West of England, said it had recently installed a pool using the technology for a private residence in South Wales, and it was engaging with homeowners and boutique hotels as it looks to hit growth targets for next year.

From its formation, the company has grown to a workforce of 11 engineers, operations, sales and project management staff. According to its co-founder Mr Cox, its turnover has risen from £150,000 to £1.5m. It also has a sister company Origin Aqua (Hydrolize) which provides technical support.

The business is now led by financial director Jon Heywood, who is hoping the widening of its customers will help CWR double its sales and increase profits year on year by 50% in 2023.

Mr Heywood said: “We’ve got something special to offer the potentially thousands of customers who install swimming pools each year. It’s the best of both worlds and the future of natural water swimming.”
