The federal measles count climbed again on Friday. The CDC's national measles case and outbreak data page now lists 3,471 confirmed U.S. cases for 2026, current through September 17. That is 177 more than the 3,294 posted a week earlier, an increase of about 5.4%, according to the weekly measles tracker kept by Contagion Live.
For households, the number matters less than where the new cases are landing. Cases have been reported by 47 jurisdictions, and 95% of confirmed infections are tied to an outbreak rather than an isolated traveler. That pattern describes sustained community spread, arriving during the first full month of the school year.
