National Lottery winner's "legs went weak" when she found out about €8.9 million winnings

A recent Lotto winner says their “legs went weak” when they found out the value of their ticket from the October 5 draw.

Two families were invited along to the National Lottery’s winner's room on Thursday afternoon to pick up a combined €10.9 million in prizes that they won in Lotto Jackpot draws.

Ireland’s two newest millionaires were from Co. Meath and Co. Wexford and both secured life-changing sums of money in recent weeks.

A family syndicate who purchased their ticket in Duleek, Co. Meath collected their Lotto Jackpot prize worth an astonishing €8.9 Million which they won on Wednesday, 5th of October.

The ecstatic family, who wish to keep their win private, spoke of the moment they realised they’d won the life-changing prize and said: “We just couldn’t believe it, we felt so overwhelmed but so grateful at the same time! We’re still wrapping out head around it. It’s going to give us such security going forward.

“My legs went weak when the National Lottery Claims Teams told me how much I’d won. My head was like scrambled eggs after I got off the phone with them.

“I was putting my shopping away in all the wrong cupboards. I put a bag of sugar in the fridge and I made a cup of tea with un-boiled water!”, one syndicate member added.

The winning ticket was sold on Saturday, October 1 in Londis in Duleek, Co.Meath. The family don’t have any immediate plans for the winnings but hope to firstly pay off a few bills.

Meanwhile, a second family syndicate claimed a huge National Lottery prize today. They’re from Co.Wexford and collected their Lotto Jackpot prize of €2 Million - which they won on Saturday October 15, 2022.

“The family, who also wish to remain private, reacted to their incredible win: “Well there were tears of joy when we found out. We were in complete shock and disbelief,” they said.

“But this has come at the perfect time for us and it will really take some pressure off. We’re looking forward to a special Christmas between us.”

One family member spoke of the pressure of keeping the winning ticket safe for a whole week. “I was absolutely petrified I’d lose the ticket.

“So, I hid it in a Micheal Collins DVD case and stashed it away under the bed. Micheal took good care of it for us!”, the syndicate member said.

Their winning quick pick ticket worth €2 Million was sold on the day of the draw at Canavan’s Londis in Gorey, Co. Wexford.
