Nathan Patterson wants Celtic stickers binned as ex Rangers star bigs up his new Everton song

It hasn’t been all plain sailing for Nathan Patterson since his move to Everton from Rangers but Frank Lampard and the Goodison Park faithful are starting to see exactly why Rafa Benitez sanctioned a £10 million move for the Scotland full back.

And one Everton diehard had paid Patterson the ultimate tribute after posting a new song for the 20-year-old on social media. The player responded with his appreciation for the effort but the ex-Ibrox star couldn’t resist a bit of a banter with singer Ryan Rooney, cousin of England legend Wayne.

Patterson spotted the singer’s guitar had a couple of stickers which weren’t exactly to his liking - a Celtic badge and current Hoops hero Kyogo! And the defender joked in response to the song: “Love it mate but sort those bottom two stickers out!” Rangers fans lapped up his banter but the song has been catching on and is now a popular terrace chant. To the tune of Following the Sun by SUPER-Hi and Neeka they sing: “If you’re looking for a right back, I found a Glaswegian Nathan Patterson. Somewhere running up the right wing, you can hear the Toffees sing Nathan Patterson.”

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo about his love for Everton and singing, Rooney said in an interview: “With me being from such a sporty family, and in school as well with all the other kids playing football, music was my own unique, little thing, and I took pride in it.

"I do love my football a lot, but if you put the choice in front of me - pay upfront for Everton every week, or sing to thousands of people like Ed Sheeran - I'd pick music every day of the week, and twice on Sundays."
