Nathan Patterson has stunned some hardy Everton fans as the Rangers academy product waited for the Nordic travellers at the airport.
The Scotland international is currently continuing his recovery from an ankle injury sustained while on duty for Steve Clarke's men. Everton face a major Premier League match against Manchester United at Goodison Park this Sunday and a group of Icelandic Evertonians have been given the VIP treatment ahead of it, with budget airline PLAY landing in Liverpool for the first time.
As they got off the plane to start their adventure in Merseyside, Patterson was there waiting for them when the inaugural flight from Reykjavik touched down at John Lennon Airport. He greeted them with club scarves, shook hands and posed for photos following their 2,000-mile round trip as the former Rangers kid - who left Ibrox in January - put in the extra effort after a display and dedication from the supporters.
He told the Liverpool Echo: "It was a real pleasure to meet the Icelandic fans. The passion of all of our supporters never ceases to amaze me.
"As a team, we’re in awe of their incredible support. It’s very humbling that fans travel such distances to follow the team. So it was nice to be able to let them know how much we appreciate that.”
An airport spokesman added: “We really appreciated Nathan coming along this morning. The Icelandic fans were absolutely delighted to meet Nathan and the welcome they received.”
