Everton full-back Nathan Patterson is earning plaudits for his performance in the English Premier League after another outstanding display against West Ham.
The right-back endured a false start at Goodison Park following his move from Rangers in January after signing for Rafa Benitez before the Spaniard was quickly replaced by Frank Lampard following the 20-year-old's arrival south of the border. He made just one appearance under Lampard last term against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup, during which he was brutally subbed at half-time by the England legend. However, he has kickstarted his career in the English top flight this term.
The Scotland cap has made the right-back slot at Everton his own, keeping experienced Seamus Coleman on the bench this term and earning plaudits from the fans on Merseyside for his dynamic displays. He was again at the centre of the action in the narrow 1-0 win over The Hammers with both Jamie Carragher and Alan Shearer praising a game-saving tackle Maxwel Cornet.
The West Ham attacker was closing on on goal before Patterson made an excellent recovery challenge to deny Cornet a shot. Speaking to Match of the Day 2, Newcastle United icon Shearer said: “What about this for a tackle, reading the game. Then this one here. Look at the way he’s just getting back there. Superb from Patterson, just that little touch there takes it off Cornet and that stops a goal there.”
Liverpool legend Carragher also offered the Everton star praise on Sky Sports. He added: "It's Patterson coming across, he puts the challenge in to put Cornet off. He gets a touch and it's brilliant from Patterson."
