Republic of Ireland fans were blown away by Nathan Collins' wonder goal for the Republic of Ireland against Ukraine on Tuesday evening.
The Burnley defender cut out Mykola Shaparenko’s pass and skipped past three challenges before stabbing a shot past the advancing Dmytro Riznyk in the Ukrainian goal for an incredible solo goal.
And Ireland supporters were quick to take to social media to sing his praises.
One said: "Nathan Collins looking like Messi with that run and finish."
Another commented: "Nathan Collins is Maradona."
Someone else tweeted: " Nathan Collins is going to be a phenomenal footballer, what a goal he has scored against Ukraine."
One other post read: "Was that Diego Maradona or Nathan Collins? Someone please check."
Scott Hogan was handed his first Ireland start for 33 months in Tuesday night’s Nations League clash with Ukraine in Lodz.
The Birmingham forward, who last made the XI for his country in a friendly against Bulgaria in September 2019, was one of three changes to the side which beat Scotland 3-0 at the weekend with Dara O’Shea and Darragh Lenihan also coming in to replace the injured Michael Obafemi, the suspended Shane Duffy and the unavailable John Egan.
Ukraine boss Oleksandr Petrakov made four changes to the team which beat Armenia 3-0 at the LKS Stadium on Saturday, with goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk, Everton full-back Vitaliy Mykolenko and forwards Andriy Yarmolenko and Artem Dovbyk replacing Andriy Pyatov, Viktor Tsygankov, Roman Yaremchuk and Mykhailo Mudryk.
