Nathan Broadhead returns to Sunderland as Everton loanee nears injury comeback

Everton loanee Nathan Broadhead has returned to Sunderland as he nears his comeback from injury.

The forward was in brilliant form for his temporary side earlier in the campaign before he picked up a hamstring problem in their League Cup defeat to Arsenal in December.

Initially it was feared the 23-year-old could be ruled out for the rest of the season thanks to the injury, but those thoughts were quickly pushed aside.

Earlier this week, Broadhead was pictured back at Finch Farm and completing an individual training session as he continued his rehabilitation.

And Sunderland boss Alex Neil has now confirmed that the forward is back with the Black Cats.

He told the media on Friday [via the Sunderland Echo ]: “He’s already back on Wearside.

“He trained with the group on Thursday, having done his rehab at Everton.

“He’ll hopefully come back as soon as he can, because it’s all hands to the pump and we need to try and get everyone back into the squad, and fit and firing.”

Broadhead scored six goals in seven games in the period leading up to his injury in December, also finding the back of the net in that defeat to Arsenal.
