Nat Phillips could be about to repeat profitable Liverpool transfer route

Nat Phillips has reached a critical point in his Liverpool career.

Part of the Reds' side that helped secure Champions League football in heroic fashion last season, appearances have fast dried up for the 24-year-old.

It was understood that Jurgen Klopp's side were chasing £15million for the services of Phillips, who is eager to secure regular first-team football.

A number of Premier League sides have been linked with moves for the Bolton-born centre-half, with Championship outfit Bournemouth the latest to show interest.

The ECHO understands the Cherries are looking to recruit Phillips until the end of the season, with Liverpool eager to secure a loan fee.

Bournemouth have proven to be a useful side to conduct business with in recent times - a trend the Reds can maintain before the end of the transfer deadline.

Jordon Ibe

Sold by the Reds in the summer of 2016, Bournemouth broke their club-record transfer fee by spending £15million on the English midfielder.

Things failed to work out for Ibe at the Vitality Stadium, however, as he was released in the summer of 2020.

Ibe recently signed for Turkish second tier side Adanaspor.

Brad Smith

On the fringes of the Reds' first-team when sold, the Australian full-back was Bournemouth-bound during the same transfer window as Ibe.

Liverpool recouped a fee worth £6million for Smith, representing an impressive piece of business given he had only made a total of 11 appearances for the club.

Klopp's side inserted a buy-back clause in the transfer agreement, though it is highly unlikely this will be exercised.

Smith currently plays for MLS side DC United.

Dominic Solanke

Solanke has thrived since his south coast switch in 2019.

Unable to make his mark at Anfield, goals have not been in short supply for the towering forward of late.

The 24-year-old bagged 15 goals in the Championship last season, a tally he has already bettered in 15 matches fewer this term.

Liverpool have received all the add-ons that were included in the deal which took the striker to the club, the ECHO understands, meaning the Reds will have banked £24m in total for the 24-year-old after Bournemouth signed him for an initial £19m

But Liverpool could be set for a further pay-out should Bournemouth be persuaded to sell the in-form striker, with club sources confirming Michael Edwards negotiated both a 20% profit sell-on clause and a buyback clause as part of the 2019 transfer.

The Cherries would need to sell Solanke for more than £24m for that clause to be activated, with it being understood they would be looking to receive at least £35m for his services if he was to move on next summer.

Harry Wilson

Liverpool banked a £2.5million loan fee after sending Wilson to Bournemouth for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Welsh winger had successfully raised his reputation following successful stints at Hull City and Derby County, enabling the Reds to negotiate a sizeable figure for his temporary services.

Wilson headed out on yet another loan last term to Cardiff City, before Liverpool eventually cashed in on the 24-year-old this summer.

As well as securing £12m from Fulham as part of a permanent deal, the Reds also negotiated a 15 per cent sell-on clause that will see them benefit should the winger move on from Craven Cottage in the coming years.

Nathaniel Clyne is a fifth example of an individual to swap Liverpool for Bournemouth, either on loan or on a permanent basis, but there were no added bonuses behind this short-term agreement.
