Nashville's Metro Public Health Department gave 640 flu shots on Fight Flu Day, October 20, and flu shots are now free at all of its clinics for the rest of the flu season, the department announced on October 21.
That change matters for household budgets. Before Fight Flu Day, the department charged $40 for an adult flu shot and $85 for the high-dose version, with a sliding scale for those who qualify, according to its earlier Fight Flu Day notice. TennCare and Medicare Part B already covered the full fee at Metro clinics, so the free shots help uninsured and underinsured residents most.
