NASHIK: Three scrap material godowns caught fire in the early hours of Sunday. The incident took place in the Mehboob Nagar area of Wadalagaon at 3.15 am.
It took the fire fighters nine fire tenders and more than four hours to extinguish the fire.
The fire department officials said that they got a call at 3.40 am after which the fire tenders were rushed to the incident spot.
The godowns were located close to one another with all containing plastic bags, vehicle spare parts, tyres, old newspapers, wooden articles, etc.
“The godowns started catching fire one after the other and the fire brigade had to press nine fire tenders into service. The fire eventually was doused at around 7.30 am,” said fire officials. Fire officials said there is a dense residential locality around the scrap godowns and fortunately, the fire did not spread to the area which could have led to a major disaster.
The officials said they had to take extra precautions due to the windy conditions. Even after the flames were doused, one fire tender remained at the spot for another hour just to ensure that there was no simmering fire under the charred scrap material.
