Whadjuk Noongar journalist Narelda Jacobs has put a Melbourne café on blast, claiming they refused to seat her at an empty table and instead offered the spot to a white man who walked in after her.
On Wednesday, the 48-year-old news presenter took to her Instagram Stories to call out an unnamed cafe for allegedly dishing up some terrible customer service.
In the scathing Instagram Story, Jacobs claimed the Melbourne cafe refused to seat her at the table she wanted in a prime spot. Instead, they seated her in the back of the venue, “only to offer the same empty table to the white man who walked in after [her]”.
“Good morning Melbourne,” Jacobs wrote.
“Except the one café that refused me a nicely placed empty table, instead seating me at the back, only to offer the same empty table to the white man who walked in after me.”
Thankfully, the 10 News First journalist was able to grab a cuppa, posting a picture of a delish cup of coffee on a table that is seemingly near the front of the tagged café.
“Show ’em how it’s done @vesparossa_,” she wrote.
This isn’t the first time Jacobs has used her social media to call out troubling behaviour. Earlier this year, the journalist put an anonymous viewer on blast after they sent an email complaint regarding her on-air clothing to the Channel 10 newsroom.
In the email — which was shared by Jacobs on Instagram — the anonymous viewer described her outfit as “inappropriate” and wrote that “cleavage is for the nightclubs”.
In the Instagram post, the journalist said she believed that the intentions of the email were to “shame and humiliate her” as the email was sent to the “entire newsroom”.
“Yes, we still receive emails like this,” the journalist wrote.
“Yes, it went to the entire newsroom.
“Yes, I was on air at the time.
“Yes, it is intended to shame and humiliate me.
“No, what I’m wearing is not inappropriate but your email sure is.”
And if you’re wondering what the outfit was, Jacobs was wearing a v-cut olive shirt with a beige blazer covered in white designs.
Jacobs hasn’t shared an update on the café, but the alleged incident truly highlights how discriminatory behaviour is alive and still happening in Australia.
How bloody disappointing.
