Naomie Harris admits she’s ‘terrified’ of cancel culture and sometimes censors herself

Naomie Harris has admitted that she’s ‘absolutely terrified’ of cancel culture and often refrains from saying what she truly believes as a result.

The 45-year-old Bond star believes that there isn’t a ‘safe space’ to say some things, amid fear that people are too quick to cancel someone.

Talking to Amazing magazine, where she appeared as the cover star for Issue 2, Harris said she wanted to be part of a society where people are allowed to say how they feel - even if she hated their opinion.

“It means there is no discussion anymore. I may hate someone’s opinion, [but] I’d rather be part of a society in which they are allowed to say it,” the actor explained.

She added: “So often I don’t say things I truly believe, because I don’t feel there is a safe space in which to say them, because people are so quick to call ‘cancel.’”

Harris was one of several stars that were selected to appear on the cover of the magazine’s second edition, including Katie Holmes, Lesley Manville and Geri Halliwell-Horner.

“I don’t know where I got the hutzpah to be able to say that – at the time I was a starving actress,” the Pirates of the Carribbean star continued.

“I said I will only play roles that represent positive depictions of Black women, which is extraordinary. I look back at my younger self and have so much admiration for her.”
