Naomi Watts' stunning dressing room is 'an ode to nature,' thanks to its artful use of sustainable materials

Naomi Watts is associated with action and adventure. Between her roles in films like King Kong, The Impossible, and The Divergent Series, Watts has certainly embraced a daring spirit in her acting. However, when it comes to her interiors, she prefers to take on a more subdued approach.

In a video recently posted to her Instagram page, we can see the actor doing her skincare in her dressing room. While the products may be the main items on display, we were taken by her soothing surroundings. In view behind her is a wooden dresser, a rattan basket, a white armchair, and transparent, light brown curtains, all of which contrast the white, painted walls. The use of natural materials and neutral colors evokes a cozy, serene feel, and it's one that we can get behind.

Design that embraces the natural world is a core pillar of the current interior design zeitgeist. It features strongly within trends like Japandi and organic modern; it is at once in style, and completely timeless. 'As we enter summer, nature-inspired design is set to weave its way into the fabric of interior design, quite literally,' interior stylist at ScS, Victoria Foster, states.

She continues: 'This interior design trend takes inspiration from natural landscapes, incorporating earthy tones, botanical motifs, and raw materials to create a harmonious and calming environment. Think of it as an ode to nature - blossoming within the confines of your home, the perfect way to forget the winter blues.'

When establishing a nature-inspired color scheme, Foster suggests embracing colors that are typically found in the great outdoors.

'The color palette revolves around mossy greens, warm browns, and soothing blues, evoking the essence of forests, mountains, and oceans,' she says. 'Furniture with organic patterns and textures, such as rattan and reclaimed wood, will be in high demand.'

Watts has adopted these materials within her own space, making the process of getting ready (or doing skincare) feel even more relaxing thanks to the accessories' soothing properties.

Finally, one addition Foster would recommend to enhance the natural decor is actual products of nature.

'In terms of decor, houseplants are a key component of the trend,' she says. 'Wicker or terracotta plant pots are a great way to continue the natural theme, while positioning plants on oak shelving and furniture is a match made in heaven. Try using plants of various sizes and incorporate the colour green in other areas of your décor - from wall décor and artwork to furniture and accessories.'

Below, we have rounded up some wicker baskets and woven trays that would look fantastic in a bathroom, bedroom, or even a living space.

Not only are natural materials beautiful and calming, but many of them are also highly sustainable. Seek out materials such as rattan and linen that are ethically sourced for products that are not only beneficial for the home, but for the planet, too.
