Kolkata: The stage is set for high-voltage multi-cornered contests in October 6 Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly bypolls, with the final line-up shaped by withdrawals, candidate arrests, electoral symbol complications, rival Trinamool Congress factions contesting the prestige fights and a dramatic last-minute change of heart by the Mamata Banerjee camp's Rejinagar nominee.
Saturday marked an eventful last day of withdrawal of nominations which witnessed the flip-flop of Banerjee's Rejinagar candidate over withdrawal from poll race, the arrest of an Independent candidate in the same seat and the judicial remand of the Congress nominee in Nandigram, effectively throwing him out of the campaign phase of the elections.
