Nancy Guthrie case update: The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has entered another troubling phase as new forensic theories continue to emerge months after she vanished from her Arizona home. Nancy, the mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, disappeared earlier this year under circumstances investigators still describe as suspicious. A former FBI profiler believes blood evidence recovered near the scene may reveal what happened in the moments before she was taken.
As authorities continue reviewing surveillance footage, DNA evidence and thousands of tips, the case remains one of the most closely watched missing persons investigations in the country, as per Fox News.
What did investigators find outside Nancy Guthrie’s home?
The mystery surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has once again drawn national attention after former FBI supervisory special agent Jim Clemente shared a new assessment tied to forensic evidence recovered at the scene, as per a report.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, vanished from her Tucson, Arizona, home in February. Since then, investigators have continued treating the case as a suspected abduction. Surveillance footage previously released by authorities showed a masked man carrying a gun outside the property during the early morning hours.
According to Clemente, blood evidence recovered near the front porch may provide critical insight into what happened shortly before Nancy disappeared.
“We also know at least that she was alive at that time,” Jim said during an interview with Fox News.
The former FBI profiler explained that investigators reportedly found blood droplets near the entrance of the home along with a trail extending toward the driveway. In his view, the evidence points to a struggle that may have started near the doorway.
Retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente says blood splatter on Nancy Guthrie's front porch shows she was still alive and coerced out of her home by a lone abductor — who isn't a "sophisticated criminal."

“She must have aspirated and then coughed up blood with her face very close to the ground, and I don’t believe that would have happened had two people been carrying her at that point,” he explained.
Clemente also suggested the evidence indicates the crime was likely carried out by a single suspect rather than multiple people. The latest theory has intensified public interest in the case as investigators continue to examine forensic evidence collected from the property, as per a report.
Why does the FBI profiler believe the suspect made mistakes?
Clemente described the suspected kidnapper as someone who appeared unprepared and under pressure during the incident.
“He is not a sophisticated offender. He was sort of bumbling his way through this, and he made other mistakes, and I believe those mistakes will directly lead to his capture.”
The retired profiler believes Nancy may have initially complied before resisting near the front entrance. “I believe that what it means is he threatened her with his gun when he was at her bedside. He got her to come down, and at the front door is where she realised he’s going to take me, and this is very dangerous, and I should fight, and she did.”
He also suggested the suspect likely displayed unusual behaviour after authorities released surveillance images publicly.
“Because of all the mistakes this guy made, because of his ineptness and non-professional behaviour in this, I believe that he exhibited a great degree of stress when the images were first released,” he said.
“Anybody around him should have noticed that behaviour change and potentially be able to identify him because of that.”
How are investigators continuing the search?
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as forensic teams continue analysing evidence tied to the case.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that DNA testing and video analysis are still underway with assistance from laboratories across the United States. Investigators have also stated that newer forensic technology may help generate additional breakthroughs.
Investigators continue urging anyone with credible information to contact authorities, stressing that even a small detail could become significant.
