A nan is furious with the ‘disgusting’ quality of care that her autistic granddaughter has received from a Merseyside care provider.
Geraldine Leech, 71, from Greasby, said friends have even commented on granddaughter Gemma’s ‘dirty’ appearance when she goes out into the community. Gemma, 29, who also has epilepsy, has been receiving care from Wirral-based organisation, Autism Together, for the past year at a supported living facility on Shrewsbury Road in Birkenhead.
Geraldine told the ECHO: “The staff haven’t been giving her personal care. They prompt her to clean herself but she can’t clean herself properly, so she’s constantly having to go to the doctors with water infections."
