Namco’s Rave Racer Is Coming to Consoles for the First Time

A long-lost arcade classic is finally coming to consoles. Rave Racer, the third entry in the Ridge Racer series that debuted in arcades in 1996, is finally getting its first official home console release after 31 years since its release.

This news comes as part of Hamster’s Arcade Archives 2 Initiative, which is all about bringing classic coin-op titles to modern platforms. For people who grew up playing, this is a great chance to delve into some nostalgia, and for the newer folks, it’s time to try out one of the most iconic games of its era.

A Classic Arcade Racer Finally Gets A Modern Port

Rave Racer was originally released by Namco as a sequel to Ridge Racer and was known for pushing arcade hardware with its enhanced visuals, improved driving physics, and high-speed thrills. In its day, it stood out for its tight controls and vibrant track design, elements that helped shape how 3D racing games evolved in the late ’90s.

Despite being successful, Rave Racer would only be limited to arcade machines, never receiving a proper console release. But that’s about to change with this recent announcement. Rave Racer is finally confirmed to release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and both Switch devices on February 26, 2026.

What To Expect

While there isn’t any information on additional content, we do know that the core game is expected remain true to the original. Generally, titles as old as these usually receive screen settings, UI, and accessibility updates to ensure the game runs seamlessly on modern hardware. Essentially, it will be the same Rave Racer we all know and love, but now on modern consoles.

For fans of classic racing or Namco’s arcade legacy, the console debut of Rave Racer is a small but meaningful moment. A legendary title is finally getting a home outside of arcade machines.

For older gamers and racing enthusiasts, Rave Racer has a bit of a mythical status. It’s one of those games often cited when people talk about the arcade roots of games like Ridge Racer and even later 3D racing influences. Having an official console port lets a new generation experience a piece of racing history that was once locked behind arcade joysticks and CRT monitors.
