Naked man wields knife while scaling tunnel site

A naked man allegedly armed with a knife has been Tasered and arrested after climbing several storeys up a major state government worksite.

Officers began negotiating with the 40-year-old man at a Metro Tunnel construction site on the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Lane in Melbourne's CBD about 6.30am on Friday.

They attempted to arrest him, but he fled and climbed several storeys up the worksite's scaffolding, police said in a statement.

The area was cordoned off while police negotiated with the man.

Police officers then moved in on the NSW man about 10am, shot him with a Taser took him into custody.

He was later seen being wheeled out of the building on a stretcher covered by a sheet.

Ambulance officers took the man to hospital where he was under police guard.

The site was evacuated as a precaution and there were no-one was injured.
