Nail-biting moment car drives down narrow snowy road on Scots seafront during storm

This is the nail-biting moment when a Scots mum drove down a narrow snowy road by a harbour - just inches away from a terrifying drop down to the sea.

Roseanne McKay captured the suspenseful moment on her dashcam while traveling down the seafront in Gardenstown, Aberdeenshire, in horror stormy conditions.

The mum and her children decided to take the Jeep out for a spin following a blizzard.

In the video the vehicle can be seen driving down the narrow road, which is blanketed in snow.

The sea can be seen on the righthand side with no barrier to stop a drop had the car broken into a skid.

Roseanne, 46, continues driving up the street in the pitch black as waves crash against the wall down below.

She has to carefully manoeuvre past parked cars in the treacherous conditions on the road, knowing one wrong move or skid will end up with her and her children in the sea.

The road appears to get narrower as the family reach a car park at the harbour before turning back on themselves.

They then continue exploring an area around the harbour before heading back home.

Roseanne, from Gardenstown, says despite the stormy conditions the family fancied a drive to check out the snow.

The healthcare worker says they never felt unsafe due to the fact she had driven down the narrow road countless times and she trusted her Jeep to deal with the conditions.

She has stressed the importance of planning ahead in horror conditions - and if you do need to go out, keeping to the roads you know.

Roseanne told the Record: "I've always loved driving in the snow since I learned to drive almost 30 years ago.

"My kids - who are 20, 17 and 14 - wanted to go for a drive to the bottom of our village because it was so snowy.

"To be honest I found the drive from the top to the bottom of the hill that we live on worse than the drive across the seafront.

"None of us felt unsafe driving over it, we've driven over that road our whole lives.

"It was the first time I'd driven it in the snow right enough - but I knew my Jeep was more than capable of handling the road conditions.

"People live in those houses so the traffic is very slow anyway, just an awful lot slower when it's been snowing.

"I would never put my life at risk or risk damaging my motor. If I hadn't driven over there regularly since I learned to drive I'd never attempt it in those conditions. Part of life where we live has always been driving in snow."

She added: "The road is not as scary or dangerous as it looks but I've seen people drive over there in very windy conditions and the waves are coming up over the road. That's not for me."

Roseanne posted the footage onto the Facebook page Scotland from the Roadside, leaving some social media users feeling 'physically sick'.

Roseanne said: "Here's what it looks like driving across in the snow. All great fun whatever the weather.

"The video makes it look faster than it was, I've driven that road thousands of times in over 30 years, but was going at snail pace in the snow."

One local commented: "Very brave. I feel sick watching it."

Another said: "One wrong move that car is over the edge then numerous emergency services required!"

A third added: Wow! I think I would be a nervous wreck if I had to drive that."
