Nagpur: Over 10,000 trees to be felled on ceiling lands for commercial gains

NAGPUR: With over 10,000 trees marked for felling on ceiling lands in Ghorpad adjoining Kondhali and Kalmeshwar forest ranges, 40km from here, the fate of tigers and other wildlife animals seems to have been virtually sealed.

The parcels of lands where tree felling is proposed for commercial gains have breeding populations of tigers and other Schedule I to IV animals — leopards, sloth bears, four-horned antelope, sambars, spotted deer, wild boars, and nilgais — listed under the Wildlife Protection Act (WPA), 1972.
