Naga Munchetty couldn’t resist taking aim at fellow presenter Rav Wilding for his inability to perform a basic household chore.
The BBC Breakfast presenter - who is moving to BBC Radio 5 Live next year following a slew of reported bullying accusations - took aim at former police detective Wilding on Thursday morning.
Munchetty and her co-host Charlie Stayt were chatting to Morning Live hosts Gethin Jones and Michelle Ackerley about what was coming up on the show later in the day.
Jones revealed they would be discussing a recent study, which found that 62 per cent of people don’t know “how to work a washing machine”. He then pointed out that their co-presenter Wilding was one of those people.
Munchetty chipped in to remark: “I mean, Rav, that is nothing to be proud of. Seriously, man.”
Wilding burst out laughing and spread his hands, protesting: “It's the compartments - where do things go? It's a little bit challenging.”
Stayt interjected, “Rav, let me help you. The washing goes in the...” and Munchetty added, “The round bit,” miming the shape of the washing machine.
She went on sarcastically: “It goes in the big round bit. And then you have the little square window that you can pour some stuff in. Or there's a little ball, you can throw it in.”
Ackerley quipped, “Do you want to come in, Naga, and join us for the item?” to which she replied in a deadpan tone: “If he doesn't know by now, I don't think three minutes is going to help.”
Jones then joked that Wilding had washed the T-shirt of TV carpenter Rob Bent, who was on the show as a guest.
”Look how that turned out!” Jones quipped, pointing out that Bent’s T-shirt was a brown colour.
Munchetty laughed, declaring: “It was white to begin with!”
The broadcaster - who earns up to £365,000 at the BBC - presents BBC Breakfast alongside Charlie Stayt every Thursday to Saturday, having joined the show in 2014.
She announced in July that she is quitting BBC Breakfast after 17 years on the show and moving to BBC Radio 5 Live in January.
The decision comes after she was reportedly placed under review last summer following complaints of bullying over a three-year period.
The broadcaster was accused of bullying a female colleague and making a “wildly unprofessional” off-air sex joke that left a co-worker “humiliated”. The investigation has since been “quietly closed”, The Sun reported.
Last month, Munchetty faced ”consternation” behind-the-scenes over claims she is getting special privileges at her new radio job.
There is reportedly uproar over the fact that she will be allowed to present three days in the Salford studio near Manchester, and two days a week from London near her Hertfordshire home.
Her prospective co-presenter will be expected to do five days a week in Salford.
The BBC has defended Munchetty, stating: “Appointments into any presenting role are made on merit and in line with the BBC’s standard processes.
“We reject any suggestion that different standards have been applied in this instance.”
