Thiam, aiming for a historic third consecutive Olympic gold medal, achieved a personal best throw of 15 meters 44 centimeters, propelling her ahead of Britain’s Katerina Johnson-Thompson.
Johnson-Thompson, a two-time world champion seeking her first Olympic medal, also delivered a personal best performance with a throw of 14 meters 44 centimeters, keeping the competition intense with Thiam.
Thiam currently leads the standings with 3070 points, holding a 50-point advantage over Johnson-Thompson who sits at 3020 points. In third place is USA’s Anna Hall with 2965 points, closely trailing the top two contenders.
