Boris-supporting Tory MP Nadine Dorries has been blasted for boasting about trying to land herself pricey Glastonbury tickets amid the cost-of-living crisis.
The MP for Mid Bedfordshire, who appeared on the ITV show I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2012, has been criticised as many hard up music lovers won’t be able to afford to go to the festival.
Millions of Brits are facing financial hardship with sky-high inflation reaching 10% and the Bank of England raising interest rates to 3% yesterday.
It will see householders' mortgages increase as energy bills are already double the normal rates.
Tickets cost £335 plus a £5 booking fee and a £50 deposit for next year. Last year they were £280, and just £265 the year before.
Others said the former Cultural Secretary would not be welcome at the famous festival, where in 2017 crowd chanted for former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Ms Dorries, 65, boasted on Twitter on Thursday that she was persevering attempting to get the tickets online as they went on sale.
She said: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try again.”
She posted a photo of her computer screen with “Glastonbury Festival 2023” at the top.
It read: “You will be held at this page until there is a free space on the booking site.
“This page will auto refresh and attempt to access the booking page in six seconds.
“Please have your registration number(s), registered postcode(s) and payment card ready to proceed.”
But fellow Glasto-goers were less than impressed with the MP for Mid Bedfordshire wanting to go.
Stuart McLelland fumed: “Please don't try too hard.
“I think there are people more deserving of tickets than you.
“Unless perhaps you've decided that being a member of a party which has caused the biggest cost of living crisis isn't your problem.”
Another - called Gracie - said: “Ah at £300 a ticket this will likely be the only holiday most of us can afford in 2023 courtesy of the Conservatives.
Mike Garrett said: “It would really ruin my weekend if I saw you there.”
Ben Widdowson added: “I’m gonna take a wild guess here but I don't think you're gonna be welcomed warmly by the crowd.”
One called Chris said: “I wouldn't try too hard, Nads.
“No one else will want you there.”
James Thomas joked: “Shame. I’d love to help you look for the blue goldfish in the long drops.”
