Mystery surrounds the closure of a cafe that was taken over by new owners less than a year ago. Fans of vintage-style Thea Caffea were delighted when the hidden gem reopened last July after changing hands.
As well as daytime trade serving brunch and afternoon tea, the new owners extended the hours to turn the tea room into a wine bar in the evening. However, the property, tucked away at Enfield Chambers in an alleyway off Low Pavement, has not been open for several months and has now gone up to rent.
Earlier this year customers complained when they turned up to find it closed despite bookings being accepted. Some had bought vouchers through Groupon. One unhappy customer left a review on Google saying: "We booked about a month ago and turned up today to find it closed!! Do not book to go to Thea."
