Covid is not the cause of the outbreak of acute hepatitis in young children, say UK scientists who believe they have identified the reason for the spate of liver illness globally.
Investigations by research teams in London and Glasgow suggest that the hepatitis cases are the result of two common viruses making a comeback after the pandemic lockdown.
More than 1,000 children - many under the age of five - in 35 countries are thought to have developed hepatitis with some needing liver transplants, including 12 in the UK.
