Heartless mates in Audi took man to hospital but LEFT shot girl, 9, dying with her mum

A nine-year-old girl shot dead in her home was "left dying" as a mystery driver took the gunman's intended victim to hospital.

Olivia Pratt-Korbel died after being blasted in the chest in the Knotty Ash area of Liverpool.

She had been standing behind her mum Cheryl as a gunman opened fire through a gap in the doorway at the front of her home on Monday night.

Cheryl had opened the front door to investigate the disturbance outside, before one man forced his way into her home, followed by the gunman.

A number of shots were fired before a bullet hit Cheryl in the wrist and another hit Olivia in the chest.

The gunman "fired indiscriminately", also hitting the 35-year-old man who first forced his way into the family home. The gunman and intended male victim were completely unknown to the mum and daughter.

The 35-year-old man soon fled the scene before a black Audi appeared at the scene as friends took the injured man to hospital.

Officers then arrived and the scene and rushed Olivia to Alder Hey before North West Ambulance Service took her mum to Aintree Hospital, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Audi has since been seized and police are looking to identify the gunman who was wearing a black padded jacket, gloves and a balaclava as well as the other man who ran down Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot.

Police remain at the scene with a cordon currently in place.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Boris Johnson reacted to the tragic killing of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

Mr Johnson tweeted this afternoon to say that his thoughts were with the family of the nine-year-old who was shot dead in Dovecot last night.

Mr Johnson said: "My thoughts are with Olivia Pratt-Korbel’s family and the people of Liverpool following this horrific, senseless shooting.

"This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will ensure Merseyside Police get whatever they need to catch those responsible and secure justice for Olivia."

Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: "This is a truly shocking incident in which tragically a young and innocent girl has been shot and sadly died.

"Our thoughts and condolences go to her family and friends at this very difficult time.

"No parent should ever have to suffer the loss of a child in these dreadful circumstances.

"This crime is abhorrent and our communities must come forward and tell us who is responsible.

"This cowardly individual does not deserve to be walking the streets and I would urge those who know anything to speak to us and tell us what they know so that we can put the person responsible behind bars where they belong."

Appealing to the gunman to hand himself in, Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen said officers had not yet spoken to the injured man, who had not been arrested and was in hospital in a serious, but not life-threatening, condition.

He said he also wanted a man who was with the injured 35-year-old at the time of the shooting to come forward.

Merseyside Police said Olivia's two older siblings, who were in the house at the time of the attack, were unharmed.
