Mystery and police probe launched as dead body discovered in parked car at hospital

Police have launched a major investigation after a body of a man, believed to be in his late 50s, was found in a hospital car park with the cause of death unknown.

The body was found inside a car parked at Good Hope Hospital, in Sutton Coldfield, by the Accident and Emergency department at 4.50pm on Friday (April 22).

Police said they are currently trying to identify the deceased man but the hospital remains open to the public, reported BirminghamLive.

An area of the car park has been cordoned off while detectives and forensics conduct their investigation and it is expected to remain closed until at least Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "We’re investigating after a body of a man, believed to be in his late 50s, was found in a car at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield.

"The cause of man’s death is unknown.

"From the time we were called at 4.50pm on Friday 22 April, we’ve been working hard to identify the man.

"We’re working closely with the hospital and are making good progress.

An eyewitness said: "It was about 8pm. The scene is by the ambulance entrance. The car is behind a police van and it's taped off.

"A member of staff told me it was a crime scene. There's a police car parked outside one of the drop-off zones.

"I couldn't access the normal entrance into A&E. CID is on scene and police incident support vehicle just arrived."
